.7z is a compressed open architecture archive file format which provides high compression rate and supports any compression methods.

7-Zip is an open-source freeware file archiver with .7z format support and cross-platform ports available for download on the official 7-Zip website.

Why do we use .7z

Zip format is quite traditional for everything we see archived on our systems but it has really ineffective compression ratio - what's not so good for users with limited traffic and/or disk space. We could also use .rar for LiteDiary but it has too many license restrictions and limits so we have prefered .7z for its highest compression ration and open architecture all-in-one.
